Ramadan is the holiest month for Muslims. It’s a time for abstinence, tolerance, introspection, developing your relationship with Allah, and, of course, generosity. Giving to charity (called Zakat) when able is one of the five pillars of Islam, making it as important to the faithful as fasting or prayer, but it takes on even more of a central role during Ramadan as Muslims all over the world donate to support the needy. In 2016, Muslims in the UK gave £100 million to charity during the month of Ramadan alone – the equivalent of £38 a second!
