Together For Short Lives

Together for Short Lives is a UK-based charity that aids children that are suffering from life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and their families, helping them make the most of their time together.

The charity campaigns for change in policy and provides a wealth of resources and information about children’s palliative care for families in need and supporters.

Families of children undergoing treatment can reach out at any time for support from the charity’s dedicated helplines, and be brought into a supportive community of other families going through the same situation.

Support

Together for Short Lives runs a free helpline and online chat, staffed by trained experts with experience in dealing with the issues families caring for a seriously ill child face.

The helpline is a key feature of the charity’s Family Support Hub, offering advice, information, and directing families and carers to services in their local area whenever possible. Parents can also access practical ongoing support in the form of free legal advice, family workshops, financial grant referrals, and other information all accessed via a library of free resources and publications found HERE.

Connection

Together for Young Lives runs online peer-to-peer support groups for families with terminally ill children to combat their sense of isolation and improve their wellbeing. The Together for Young Lives Family Group is a supportive community that helps families with a seriously ill child connect with each other, share their experiences, and support one another HERE

Care

The UK’s 54 children’s hospices provide vital support to families at the hospice, at home, and in the community. They’re a lifeline for families in need, providing short breaks, respite care and practical support right up until that heart-breaking moment comes for a family to say goodbye to their child, giving them the space they need to just be a family.

Children’s hospices rely on donations to help families make the most of their precious time together. Together for Short Lives’ wider partnership with Morrisons will raise vital funds for children’s hospices across the country, helping them deliver their essential care and create the best possible environment for families in need.

Mary's Story

One family Together for Short Lives has made a huge difference for is Mary’s family.

Mary, one of mum Donna’s seven children, was diagnosed with a build-up of fluid on her brain at five months old, which was later amended to a rare brain disorder called Macrocephaly Capillary Malformation.

Mary can have minor seizures daily, but every eight weeks or so she’ll have a major seizure that requires medical attention that her mother has to call an ambulance for.

“It’s terrifying when it happens,” says Donna. “When life became overwhelming, I thought who can I call? Who will listen? I picked up the phone to call Together for Short Lives.”

Past Partners

young lives vs cancer

Morrisons worked with Young Lives vs Cancer (formerly CLIC Sargent), the largest children’s and young people’s cancer charity in the UK, from 2017 until 2021. The money raised by Morrisons and the community during this time, including the donations shared by generous shoppers during the Living is Giving campaign, has contributed to grants, a specialist nurse education team, digital support, and home hubs – giving stressed patients and families a comfortable home away from home during difficult treatment periods.
